Jata Path is a piece inspired by and dedicated to Joseph Tompkins (French-American Rudimental Solos - Volumes 1-3).
Composed around the jata path of Hindu Vedic chant structure, it has a slow and stately tempo allowing for some dense rhythmic interplay between the accents. Exploratory rhythmic figures combine with a strong accent pattern to produce a complex and dense marching feel in 4/4.
The rhythms and notation present a significant challenge to both read and play, despite the slower tempo, and this piece represents an exploratory and interesting journey through unusual vocabulary.
The piece spans three pages and takes just under three minutes to perform.
